A weekend in a castle setting can hardly be anything but wonderful. Add sea breezes, beautiful gardens, and plenty of farm shops, and you have a weekend you won’t soon forget.
Day 1, Arrival. Check-in & Garden Stroll at the Castle
Check in to cozy accommodation at Tjolöholm Castle – either in the village cottages, the Castle Gatehouse, or the Manor Suite. The castle is designed in Tudor style and is beautifully situated on a peninsula surrounded by the sea and a very family-friendly beach. On the estate, you’ll find a castle church in Scottish style, and both the castle garden and the gardens in the National Romantic village are well worth a visit.

Tjolöholm Castle is located on a peninsula in the Kungsbacka Fjord and is often described as one of Sweden’s most remarkable buildings.
Just a short drive from the castle, you can enjoy locally produced food freshly harvested from Halland’s fertile soil. Horseradish, KRAV-certified vegetables, and fresh cheeses can be found at Mariebergs Farm Shop. At Hallands Kombucha, there is a small kombucha brewery where many of the drink’s ingredients come from KRAV-certified fields and nearby gardens. Kvia Farm Shop grows vegetables such as potatoes, kale, and bunch vegetables outdoors and sells both their own produce and goods from other farms. HamraGård is a small lamb and pig farm in Åsa, stocking its farm shop with meat as well as hides, blankets, and wool yarn from the farm’s animals.
In the evening, head into Kungsbacka for dinner at one of the restaurants in town

Day 2: A Castle Tour, Farm Café, Great Food & Shopping
Start the day with a delicious breakfast in the garden by the Main House at magnificent Tjolöholm Castle, and experience the remarkably well-preserved interiors from the turn of the last century, when the lady of the castle, Dickson, ordered most furnishings from the Liberty department store in London. Here you’ll find an abundance of British comfort and, for its time, ultra-modern conveniences such as the circular shower and one of Sweden’s very first vacuum cleaners, weighing a ton.
Take a walk along the Count’s Path or stroll by the sea down to the harbor, where a refreshing dip at the bathing spot will energize you for your next excursion. A visit to charming Skårs Farm is perfect for lunch. Here they serve not only homemade ice cream inspired by Italian gelato, but also hearty dishes and sweet waffles.
Continue along the coastal road to Varberg. Spend the afternoon and evening at Johnsons Farm just outside Varberg. Here you’ll find the cozy Sikta Stenugnsbageri (which also makes its own ice cream), home décor, a ceramics workshop, a brewery, and a farm shop. Take the opportunity to dine at the farm restaurant Spiseriet, offering Nordic cuisine with local, organic ingredients and traditional cooking methods with a focus on wood-fired grilling. There are also delicacies to take home, and the wine list is filled with carefully selected wines.

At Spiseriet, the ingredients come from farms all around Halland.
