Gastronomy & Sand Between Your Toes 2 Days

In Halland, great food and beach life go hand in hand. With a long coastline, beautiful seaside walks and an impressive range of restaurants, it’s easy to combine salty swims with memorable food experiences. Here’s a suggested weekend in Falkenberg, but the same type of trip can easily be recreated in most of Halland’s municipalities – perhaps with the goal of experiencing them all.

Day 1 – Arrival: Gastrobar, Artisan Fika & a Beachside Hotel

Kick off the weekend with an early lunch in Falkenberg at the popular gastrobar Rådhustorget No:1a, known for flavourful food served in a relaxed, stylish setting. After lunch, take a short stroll through town and treat yourself to coffee and baked goods at Borgmästargården, where classic craftsmanship meets modern ideas.

Then head for the classic seaside gem Skrea Strand, just south of Falkenberg, and check in at Ocean Hotel, beautifully tucked in among the sand dunes. This boutique-style hotel offers a laid-back atmosphere and an unbeatable location close to the sea.

Spend the afternoon however you like: take a calm walk along the shoreline, dive into the waves from the iconic 250-metre-long bathing pier, or rent a kayak and enjoy the last rays of sunshine out on the water.

Day 1 – Evening: Dining Experiences in and Around Falkenberg

As evening approaches, there’s no shortage of great dinner options. Skrea Matbruk feels like an Italian living room inside a Swedish stone barn, serving pasta and other dishes often made with local, organic ingredients and plenty of care.

Just a short walk away is Prostens pizza, located in the red-brick former outbuilding of the vicarage. Here you’ll find rustic Roman-style pizzas, small plates and carefully selected specialities in an informal, welcoming setting.

Another option is Lis Mejeri, a creative and intimate restaurant housed in an old dairy, where hosts Johan and Rina occasionally open their much-loved home-style dining room.

If you’re in the mood for Nordic cuisine rooted in local produce, drive a little south to Spiseriet, set in a beautiful rural landscape near Varberg. Other notable gastronomic stops in Halland include the pizzeria BRÄNN in central Varberg and the acclaimed restaurant Äng at Ästad Vineyard – Halland’s first Michelin-starred restaurants, each awarded one star.

Day 2 – Lilla Napoli, Bakeries & Farm Shops

After a good night’s sleep, breakfast and a refreshing morning walk along the beach, it’s time for lunch. Lilla Napoli in Falkenberg is a small, legendary pizza spot – if you didn’t already know it’s considered one of Sweden’s very best pizzerias, you might easily drive straight past it. The unassuming building used to be a petrol station, but inside you’ll find authentic Neapolitan pizza, made with deep respect for craftsmanship, ingredients and tradition.

Due to its popularity, you often need to pre-order your dough via their website to secure a table.

Right next door lies Vallarna, Falkenberg’s largest and most beloved park, home to a classic playground, summer theatre and revue performances, as well as scenic walking paths along Halland’s four rivers – including the Ätran.

Round off the weekend with a relaxed fika in the gardens of Solhaga Stone Oven Bakery, before stopping by a few local farm shops on your way home. Pick up edible memories of Halland – fresh vegetables, cheese, bread or other local delicacies – perfect as souvenirs or for a picnic later on.
