Pier-Life & Golf 3 Days

Fresh seafood, golf, morning walks by the sea — and maybe an adventure at sea. A weekend in Halland can hold so much enjoyment.

Day 1

Halland is a little paradise for those who love golf. From north to south, inland and along the coast, there are wonderful courses to choose from. Halmstad is known as “Sweden’s Golf Capital”, but excellent facilities can be found all over the region. So start your weekend with a round at one of Halland’s many golf courses — a delightful way to begin your trip.

After the round, drive to Varberg and check in at a seaside hotel — for example Varbergs Kusthotell. Rent a bike at the hotel, pack a warm sweater, and cycle out to the picturesque village Träslövsläge (also called “Läjet”) for pier-life and some bubbles. Enjoy a meal at Joels Brygga — or arrange your own picnic: buy fresh langoustines, crab, shrimp and good sides from local seafood vendors such as Läjets Fisk or Kräftvagnen — then find the prettiest spot on the rocks or the beach.

Day 2, morning:

Those feeling adventurous can book a fishing trip with the boat fleet Fladenbåtarna departing from Varberg. Others may prefer to wake up to the sound of the waves, stroll the shore promenade and take a refreshing morning dip — from a pier, the beach or the local cold-bathhouse Varbergs Kallbadhus, depending on what you like. Grab a coffee at Kustbageriet before heading over to the scenic Varbergs Fästning — take in the views, soak up the medieval history and have lunch when hunger calls. Maybe top it off with an ice cream at Kulingen.

Day 2, afternoon:

Spend the afternoon on a little road-trip. Southwards you’ll find the small fishing village Glommen with coastal meadows, a charming lighthouse and a small marina. Northwards in the area around Kungsbacka, there are lovely walking areas like Särö Västerskog. If you’re up for a mellow coastal adventure, trying SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) can be a great idea. The fjord Kungsbackafjorden is sheltered from open sea — you can paddle between islands in varied nature. Some rental options are Ståpaddla, Board yoga and Surfskjulet. For lunch, you might stop by for example Blomstermåla near Särö Västerskog — or maybe enjoy the popular lunch at Vallda Golf & Countryclub followed by a round of golf.

Back in Varberg, end the day with great food and lovely views at Johns Place in Apelviken, right among the sand dunes. Much of the food is prepared over an open fire and menus are seasonal — making late-summer evenings on the terrace perfect, especially with a cozy fire when the wind blows outside.

Day 3

For a golf enthusiast a great day doesn’t have to be complicated. A nice breakfast at the hotel followed by a salty dip and then a final round of golf at a course of your choice — that wraps up this weekend beautifully. Could it get any better?
