Over a hundred years of spa history in Varberg

In Varberg, the peace and tranquillity of the sea is still around as it was in the yesteryears. And our spa history is still active today as it was over a hundred years ago.

Varberg’s Kallbadhuset (cold bathhouse) first threw open its doors in 1886. Even then, it had pools for both men and women, and 6 showers and 20 changing rooms on each side. Today, the bathhouse is open all year long. You can sit back and take in the mesmerising view of the sea through the large windows of the sauna.

As early as 1904, Johan Severin Almer a doctor from Varberg came to the conclusion that the warm sun, fresh sea breeze, the salt in the air and a nutritional diet had a positive effect on one’s health and well-being. He built a coastal sanatorium here. Today, more than a hundred years later, Varberg’s Kusthotell is proud to carry on his legacy.

Varbergs Kallbadhuset is one of Varberg’s more stately buildings.

The Kusthotell is Sweden’s only Thalassospa and it’s just 52 steps (yes, we counted) from the sea. You can sink into a luxurious saltwater and seaweed bath and let the minerals do their work of creating harmony through your body and soul. Then later, take a long, relaxing stroll along the promenade to enjoy the gentle music of the surf and the breeze.

If you go for a stroll along the stunning promenade towards Varberg centre, you will reach Asia Spa, which is right next to Varberg Stadshotell. Here, the spa history of Varberg still continues, this time with a smattering of Asi. Ayurveda, Feng Shui and the Five Elements are the ancient philosophies that help balance and satiate both your inner and outer wellbeing at Asia Spa. Sink into a hot Japanese tub, close your eyes and soak in the peace and tranquiltiy.
